South Hadley Police Department
2009 Recovery Act – Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program
The South Hadley Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the Town of South Hadley. The South Hadley Police Department currently serves the public safety needs for approximately 17,500 residents across 18 square miles. The department provides E911 Dispatch duties for Fire, Police and EMS. As the primary law enforcement agency, the department has been allocated $13,949.00 in funding under the 2009 Recovery Act – Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Formula.
The Police Department recognizes the goal of President Barak Obama’s landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. As such, the Police Department’s goals and objectives through this grant will help to preserve jobs, help promote economic recovery, improve criminal justice functions, and stabilize our local budget through the use of the JAG funding.
The South Hadley Police Department has two goals it intends to achieve through this grant program. The first goal for the South Hadley Police Department is to use the awarded funds to help stimulate the local economy. The second goal is to provide enhanced radio communication capabilities for the Police Department’s first responders. To meet these goals, upon receipt of the grant award, the Police Department will immediately use all funds to purchase ten (10) enhanced portable radio systems for police supervisors. The radios will be purchased from a local radio communications vendor to help stimulate the economy. Further, the South Hadley Police Department will enter into a long term service contract with the radio communications vendor to provide further
economic stimulus over the ten year life cycle of the radio equipment. Within 60 days receipt of funding, all funds received will be turned back to the local community. In turn, the local government also benefits from grant funding through the replacement of budget shortfalls which will allow for the equipment needs of local law enforcement efforts.
As part of the grant solicitation process, the Police Department is required to notify the general public of our solicitation efforts. As such, the details of our application were provided for your review and comment. All comments should be forwarded to:
