GOP Poll Workers Sought
Date:  October 26, 2009
Contact:  Carlene Hamlin, Town Clerk/Treasurer

Town Clerk Carlene Hamlin is putting out a call for poll workers to staff South Hadley’s polling places for upcoming state and local elections.

Poll workers staff the polling places and verify the registration of prospective voters on Election Day.  They are paid an hourly rate.  South Hadley is particularly in need of Republican poll workers since the vast majority of current poll workers are Democratic.  Since polling places are supposed to be nonpartisan, having workers with a mix of political affiliations is desirable, Town Clerk Hamlin explained.

In order to be a poll worker in Massachusetts, you must be at least 18 years of age, registered to vote in Massachusetts and a resident of the county or precinct.  Political affiliation is preferred.  Poll workers are required to attend training prior to elections.

Anyone interested in being a poll worker should contact Town Clerk Hamlin by calling the Town Clerk’s Office at (413) 538-5023 or sending an e-mail to clerktreasurer@southhadley.org.
