Waste Ban Items
Disposing of household trash has gone modern!  Gone are the days when one could simply put every unwanted item into a trash bag or barrel or just place it on the curb and send it ‘away’.  These days, it’s more a matter of materials management than trash disposal, because there are so many items which are now known to be hazardous or which take up space unnecessarily in a landfill.

Following is a list of materials which have been banned from landfill or incineration disposal by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, with the date that material was banned and proper disposal methods. These materials are banned either because they pose an environmental threat or because there are methods for reusing or recycling those materials. Please be aware that your trash hauler is not allowed to accept any of these materials except bottles, cans and paper (and yard waste in the spring and fall) at the curb, but all are accepted at the Recycling Center or Compost Area.  The fees charged are to cover the costs associated with proper disposal.
